YEA CEO Clarifies Staff Salary Claims, Assures Commitment

Malik Basintale, the current CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has addressed recent media reports. He assumed office in February 2025, succeeding his role as Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Basintale has clarified that YEA has not intentionally neglected staff or failed to pay those on its payroll. The agency has refuted claims that around 300 staff have gone without salaries for 10 months.

Earlier this year, a comprehensive staff audit was conducted under Basintale's leadership. This was to clean up the payroll and ensure accountability. As a result, all staff on the approved payroll have been paid up to September 2025.

Basintale, who previously served as COO, has assured that YEA is committed to its staff and their remuneration. Staff whose contracts expired before his appointment were required to reapply for renewal.
