Timisora's Municipal Transport Corporation terminates electric scooter rental operation.
In the heart of western Romania, the Public Transport Company of Timisoara (STPT) has announced the cessation of its electric scooter service, TroTM, effective this year. The decision stems from concerns regarding the service's efficiency and economic sustainability.
Despite promising initial expectations, TroTM has struggled to draw a significant user base, with an average of only 350 users monthly and a total of 1,060 users annually, according to the transport company. This low usage count proved insufficient to sustain the service's continued operation.
The annual costs associated with TroTM, including maintenance, repairs, and employee salaries, have amounted to a substantial RON 958,000. In light of this high expense in relation to the small user base, the service has become economically unsustainable, STPT stated.
However, the public transport company is not abandoning its efforts to offer eco-friendly alternatives. The VeloTM bike service will remain, providing 500 bicycles at 34 stations across the city, including 9 along the Bega Canal.
