Major Oil Smuggling Ring Busted in Germany, 52M Euros Seized
Customs investigators have uncovered a major smuggling operation involving oil, leading to raids on 32 locations across Germany. The operation is suspected of evading significant amounts of tax.
The raids, coordinated by the Oberstaatsanwaltshof Hof, targeted six suspects and one company. Over 230 customs investigators were involved, seizing 15 tanker trucks, 6 trucks, 6 trailers, and 10 passenger cars. The preliminary estimated tax loss is around 18 million euros, with an additional estimated VAT evasion loss of approximately 3.6 million euros. Five Polish tanker trucks loaded with diesel fuel were stopped and secured on their way to the company premises. The smuggled oil was allegedly sold as diesel fuel to business customers and end consumers nationwide without proper taxation. One suspect attempted to destroy or dispose of written records during a flight to Frankfurt am Main.
The investigation is ongoing, and the names of the companies and individuals involved have not been officially released. The total value of the smuggled oil is estimated to be over 52 million euros. Customs officials are continuing to work to recover the evaded taxes and bring those responsible to justice.
