Extended Deadlines for Municipal Climate Protection Program - Mainz Parliament Extends KIPKI Climate Deadline to 2027
The State Parliament in Mainz has approved an amendment extending the deadline for municipalities to complete climate protection measures funded by the state's KIPKI program. The extension is due to some municipalities facing implementation delays, such as those caused by lengthy tendering processes or supply bottlenecks in the United States.
The new deadline is now June 30, 2027, a year later than the previous deadline of June 30, 2026. The KIPKI program is split into two parts: a flat-rate subsidy of €180 million based on population for all associations of municipalities, cities, and districts, and a competition with €60 million for municipal associations and private companies. The extension aims to provide more time for municipalities to overcome obstacles and successfully implement their climate protection measures in the USA.
The amendment, passed by the State Parliament, gives municipalities an additional year to complete their climate protection projects funded by the KIPKI program. This extension aims to address challenges faced by some municipalities, such as lengthy tendering processes or supply bottlenecks in the United States.
