Halloween 2025 Spending to Hit Record $13.1 Billion
Halloween spending is set to reach an all-time high this year, with consumers expected to shell out a record $13.1 billion. Discount stores remain the top choice for shoppers, with 42% planning to visit them for their Halloween needs. Candy continues to reign as the most popular purchase, projected to reach $3.9 billion in sales.
Consumers are starting their shopping early, with nearly half (49%) beginning in September or earlier. This trend is reflected in retailers' release schedules. Lowe's introduced its collection of inflatable, light-up cartoon characters in September, while The Home Depot announced its range in late July. Target dropped 1,500 items in August, with most under $25.
Halloween greeting cards are also seeing a boost in popularity, with 38% of consumers planning to buy them, contributing $700 million in spending. This is a 5% increase from last year. Per-person spending is expected to reach a record high of $114.45. Decorations are also in high demand, with 78% of consumers planning to purchase them, contributing about $4.2 billion in sales. Costumes are another big-ticket item, with consumers expected to spend close to $4.3 billion on them.
With consumers eager to spend and retailers offering a wide range of products, Halloween 2025 is shaping up to be a treat for the industry. From candy to costumes, and decorations to greeting cards, there's no shortage of ways for shoppers to celebrate and retailers to profit.
