Disney+ Hikes Prices Again in October 2025
Walt Disney is set to increase prices for its premium streaming services, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, in October 2025. The price hike, the fourth consecutive annual increase, aims to balance subscriber growth and profitability amidst rising content production costs and market competition.
The price increase will see the ad-supported Disney+ jump by 20%, from $9.99 to $11.99 a month, while the ad-free premium version will rise by 19%, from $15.99 to $18.99 a month. The hike, effective October 21, will vary across plans and bundles, with increases ranging from $2 to $3.
Since its launch at $6.99 a month, Disney+ has roughly tripled in price. Despite the increases, Disney's direct-to-consumer business has thrived, generating $6.2 billion in revenue for the fiscal third quarter, nearly triple the $2.3 billion delivered by its legacy linear networks. As of June 2025, Disney+ and Hulu boasted a combined subscriber base of 183 million. However, the price hike may boost Disney's bottom line only if subscriber churn does not spike in response.
Disney's streaming price increase, the fourth consecutive annual hike, reflects the company's strategy to offset rising content production costs and market competition. The price adjustment, set to take effect in October 2025, will impact various plans and bundles for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ services.
