City Unveils Plan to Transform Main Station Area into Sustainable Mixed-Use Neighborhood
The city has launched plans to transform the Main Station Area into a sustainable, mixed-use neighborhood. Key aspects include integrating green spaces, efficient water use, and promoting public transport. Residents can view plans online or at the Old Town Hall and are invited to a public event on October 9th.
The project aims to create a modern, livable area around the main station, combining living, working, leisure, and mobility. It includes around 600 residential units, with 30% designated as social housing. A central feature is the expansion of Park Viewegs Garden and the resource-efficient use of rainwater.
Sustainable mobility is a priority, with a focus on public transport and bicycle parking. Car parking spaces will be concentrated in neighborhood garages. The plan also encourages public participation, with an event scheduled for October 9th at BC III. After public input, the plan will be finalized and submitted to committees in early 2026.
The Main Station Area development plan, with its focus on sustainability and public participation, is set to reshape the city's central district. Once finalized, it will offer a mix of uses and enhance the area's livability.
