Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Reveals Current Status of Buffalo Main Street Construction Project, as of July 31
The Buffalo Main Street project, as of late July 2025, is undergoing active construction with traffic changes and closures primarily managed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).
Currently, the paving of the wearing course, work around Angus Street and the South Main Street-Bypass Interstate area, and adjustments to traffic flow to accommodate construction activities are underway. Traffic changes include periodic lane closures and detours, particularly during the paving and finishing stages. WYDOT provides weekly updates on these active work zones, advising drivers to expect delays and adjusted routes.
As for the estimated completion date, the project is progressing through the summer of 2025, with no explicit final completion date in the recent updates. However, paving and surface work in key sections suggest that the project is nearing its final phases. WYDOT's updates focus on short-term weekly progress rather than a fixed end date in the publicly available recent reports.
Pedestrians are reminded to use sidewalks with caution, and for safety reasons, sidewalks are closed to bicycles and electric bikes. A dip and curve are present in the detour on South Main Street at the Cemetery Creek Culvert, so motorists are asked to drive slowly. Pedestrians are also asked to avoid walking through the detour at this location.
Paving on North Main Street from Fort Street to Hart Street is expected to happen by mid-month, and utility upgrades on the same stretch are progressing well. WYDOT expects to complete these utility upgrades within the next few weeks.
In addition to the Main Street project, other regional improvements are underway. The Wilkeson Pointe waterfront project and a new cruise ship terminal, planned for completion by mid-2027, are separate initiatives but reflect broader infrastructure enhancement efforts in Buffalo's vicinity.

On a separate note, traffic on South Main Street at the Cemetery Creek Culvert has switched to the east side of the work zone. South Main Street from the Bypass to Brock Street will be closed on Saturday, August 2, from 8 a.m. until the end of the parade. The parade route will start at Parmalee Street, proceed north on Main Street, and turn west on Fort Street.
Stay updated on the progress of the Buffalo Main Street project and plan your routes accordingly to ensure a smooth journey.
The Buffalo Main Street project, despite advancements in paving and utility upgrades, still employs periodic lane closures and detours due to ongoing construction activities within the transportation sector. To facilitate financial and industrial growth in the region, it's crucial to consider the temporary inconveniences during the project's final phases, heeding WYDOT's updates for traffic adjustments.
