Hit the Road, Jack: Construction Resumes on the A10!

Here's the scoop on what's happening on the A10 motorway between Savona and Ventimiglia, Italy, in the following days.

Yesterday, traffic on the return from the May Day bridge was a beast (24 km of congestion from the afternoon between Pietra Ligure and Savona), and today, things aren't looking any brighter as vacationers flock back from the French Riviera. Traffic wardens and highway cops are on high alert, ready to lend a hand if needed during those long traffic jams.

But fear not, for we've turned the corner. The nighttime exodus of tourists has passed, and tomorrow, construction sites will go dark for about twenty days, offering much-needed relief to mobility and a boost to the tourist sector. However, don't pop the champagne just yet, we're back to the grind with a whopping thirteen work zones in the provinces of Imperia and Savona, four of which are lane changes.

** Construction Sites Galore**

The journey on the A10 is shaping up to be an obstacle course, starting from the west with a couple of lane changes: the first between the border and Ventimiglia (Grimaldi tunnel completion) and the second between Ventimiglia and Bordighera (Aprosio tunnel). Then brace yourself for two head-on construction sites for safety barrier replacements in Arma di Taggia and between Imperia Est and Imperia Ovest. Two more will pop up concurrently between San Bartolomeo and Andora, followed by one lane change and a construction site between Andora and Albenga. Between Albenga and Borghetto Santo Spirito, you'll find another construction site for safety barriers. The final duo involves a construction site for safety barriers between Pietra and Finale Ligure and a lane change (Rocca Carpanea tunnel) between the caselli of Finale and Feglino. Mobile construction sites might make an appearance if necessary.

** Weekend Construction Reduction**

In anticipation of the busy spring weekends filled with local events (and let's not forget the Monaco GP at the end of the month), the Tirreno concessions have prepared a plan that will drop the number of work zones from 13 to 8. Some work will be axed entirely on weekends, and the machinery allowing two lanes of traffic in the prevailing direction will be used (the zipper method may be employed). Unfortunately, the plan has yet to consider tourist flows from abroad, such as for Pentecost, which will create bridges from France and Germany with substantial traffic influx.

** Planned Closures**

The recommencement of interventions will necessitate the closure of the stretch in the direction of France between Imperia Ovest and Arma di Taggia from 22 tomorrow to 6 on Tuesday. The following night (same hours), it will be the turn of the one in the direction of Italy, always between the two western caselli.

** Timeline**

The Tirreno concessions have currently designed a work schedule that reaches the end of June (the last week counts 12 construction sites). However, the work hours suggest that the A10 will be a "factory" at least until the first three weeks of July (some interventions won't cease until 24 July). But fear not, the number of construction sites will decrease progressively as the weeks roll by.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, always check official traffic advisories or road management websites in Italy, such as Autostrade per l'Italia or the Italian highway authority. They often provide details on roadworks, closures, and traffic restrictions. Good luck on the road!

  1. The upcoming construction on the A10 motorway in Italy will not only affect the transportation industry but could also have implications for the automotive sector, as motorists may need to opt for alternative modes of travel, such as public-transit or private cars.
  2. The finance industry should closely monitor the current situation regarding the A10 motorway construction, as potential delays in transportation could impact businesses relying on timely deliveries in the region.
  3. In anticipation of the decreased construction activities on the weekends, local tourism sector stakeholders, including restaurants and hotels, might find it beneficial to discuss possible financing options to attract visitors and offset any potential economic losses during the busy spring season.
