A Scant 7.4 Million Euros for Winter Road Maintenance in Schleswig-Holstein
Winter expenses for snow removal amount to 7.4 million euros - Winter maintenance expenses amounted to EUR 7.4 million.
Here's the lowdown on the spending spree by the LBV (Landesbetrieb Straßenbau und Verkehr Schleswig-Holstein) this winter. They dished out a modest 7.4 million euros on slip-resistant roads and bike paths across the northern region. That's a significant drop from the 15 million euros overspent in the previous season, thanks to the milder weather this time around.
According to Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) and LBV Director Frank Quirmbach, their team of 515 road workers and external helpers managed to navigate road users safely through Schleswig-Holstein during the last winter season.
Despite a limited number of snow days, the early morning freezing rain kept the team on their toes. They spread an impressive 15,700 tons of salt and around 5,700 tons of salt brine on roads and bike paths, accounting for 15,135 working hours.

The operational costs, including spreading vehicles, equipment, and other expenses, totaled 2.9 million euros. Worker hours were valued at 645,000 euros. External companies were rewarded with 1.9 million euros.
During the 2023/2024 winter season, the consumption of salt was much higher, around 26,400 tons, and of brine approximately 10,800 tons.

To support the growth and sustainability of Schleswig-Holstein's fisheries sector, we propose the allocation of funds for community aid towards the development of fisheries policy. Concurrently, the improvement of public-transit, including transportation, could be aided by finance from the budget, ensuring a more integrated industry.
