North Rhine-Westphalia Police Conduct Commercial Vehicle and Goods Checks
In a bid to enhance road safety and prevent accidents, the North Rhine-Westphalia Police conducted commercial vehicle and goods checks across the state today. The operation, a combined effort of various traffic services authorities, aimed to reduce accidents involving trucks and ensure compliance with vehicle regulations.
The operation was coordinated and conducted by the Düsseldorf Police Presidency at nine control points: Grevenbroich, Neuss, Rheurdt, Duisburg, Nettetal, Hünxe, Essen, Mülheim, and Wuppertal. During the operation, a total of 591 trucks were inspected.
The checks focused on several aspects, including compliance with driving and rest times, proper cargo securing, and general technical defects in vehicles. Regarding cargo securing, only properly secured cargo ensures safe driving, according to the operation. In total, 58 violations of proper cargo securing were found.
In addition to these, 56 general technical defects on the vehicles were discovered, and 127 instances of speeding violations were recorded. Eleven district police authorities are supporting the Düsseldorf Police in this operation, with Customs, the Federal Office for Logistics and Freight Traffic, and the municipalities also involved.
Police Director Reiner Schiffer expressed satisfaction with the operation and stated that the operation will continue to be conducted regularly to increase road safety and prevent accidents. Schiffer also emphasized that the goal of the operation is to ensure safe driving and reduce fatalities on the roads.
Seven drivers were found to be under the influence of intoxicants, and the driver's licenses of three drivers were confiscated. Furthermore, there were 178 instances of following distance violations.
Schiffer also highlighted that the operation aims to prevent fatigue, which can cost lives, and ensure that drivers are well-rested and alert while on the road. The journeys of 55 vehicles were prohibited due to various violations.
