According to data from idealista, these areas provide a more budget-friendly alternative to the national average, predominantly situated in the country's interior and northern regions.

Here's a breakdown of the top 10 most affordable municipalities:

The municipality of Chamusca, in Santarem, is the last in the ranking of the cheapest municipalities to buy a house in Portugal, with a price per square metre of €736 in the second quarter of 2025. Other affordable options include Alcanena in Santarém, Tábua in Coimbra, Seia in Guarda, Penela also in Coimbra, Nelas in Viseu, Arganil in Coimbra, Campo Maior in Portalegre, Montalegre in Vila Real, and Fundão in Castelo Branco, with prices ranging from €660/m2 to €730/m2.
