Weekly update on Buffalo Main Street by WYDOT, effective from July 7:
In the heart of Wyoming, work on the Buffalo Main Street project continues to make significant strides. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has provided an update for the week of July 7, shedding light on the current status and upcoming schedule for various sections of the project.
The focus of the week's activities is on the South Main Street area, where paving began on Monday, July 7, from Parmalee Street to Brock Street. Paving from Parmalee Street to Fort Street is anticipated to start within the month, with exact dates yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, on North Main Street, full depth reclamation (milling) has been ongoing, with drivers traveling on unimproved surfaces. Paving operations were anticipated to begin the week of May 5, 2025, weather permitting. As of now, the paving of the wearing course is complete on North Main Street from Hart Street to the I-90 interchange.
The Fort Street intersection has seen nearly complete paving as of late June 2025, with traffic controls in place and the traffic signal expected to have returned to normal operation by June 26, 2025.
Utility work continues to move up Main Street toward Hart Street, with traffic running head-to-head on the east side of Main Street to Hart Street.
Residents and drivers should expect continued traffic control measures and intermittent surface disruptions during this work. Lane closures, flagging operations, and three-way stops are active in various sections. Driveways and approaches along Main Street will be temporarily closed during paving preparation and asphalt placement, with affected residents and businesses given 48 hours' notice of any water shutoffs.
Motorists are asked to avoid crossing freshly painted lines on North Main Street and to be mindful of lane closures, head-to-head traffic, flagging operations, heavy traffic, and reduced speeds in this area. In the South Main Street area, lane closures, flagging operations, and haul trucks bringing in plant mix are expected. WYDOT will be striping the North Main Street section under live traffic this week.
The Buffalo Main Street project is progressing well, with milling mostly complete on North Main Street, paving underway or about to start on South Main Street, and concurrent utility work and concrete repairs in designated areas. WYDOT encourages residents and drivers to stay informed and to exercise caution while navigating the construction zones.
In the financial aspect, the ongoing Buffalo Main Street project in Wyoming may require additional funding for the anticipated paving on South Main Street from Parmalee Street to Fort Street in the near future. The progress of the project, particularly in the South Main Street area and North Main Street, is attracting interest from various industries, including transportation, as smooth roads are essential for efficient travel.
