Wealthy Agriculture Pioneer: Nituben Patel's Awe-Inspiring Transformation from Farmer to Successful Agri-Entrepreneur in India, with a Focus on Sustainable Farming Practices.
A Journey of Nature and Sustainability with Nituben Patel
Nearly two decades ago, Nituben Patel - famously known as Nitaben Karnani - embarked on a life-changing path. Born in Rajkot district and hailing from Harthkot village, she began her journey not as an entrepreneur but as a humble farmer. Nituben's fascination with nature, particularly understanding the equilibrium of soil, water, vegetation, animals, and the environment overall, fueled her passion.
Under the guidance of her guru, the late Shri Deepakbhai Sachade, Nituben adopted a natural lifestyle. She learned to communicate with the soil and advocated for agriculture in harmony with nature rather than against it. This philosophy would later become the foundation of an agricultural revolution.
Embracing Natural Farming
Nituben didn't just grow crops; she cultivated soil health. Her unique methods harnessed Amrut Krushi and "Magical Mitti" strategies, which encouraged the transformation of organic waste into plant fertilizers, thus giving a new lease of life to the land and ensuring long-term fertility. Her farm became not merely a farm but a sustaining ecosystem.
Passionate about medicinal plants, Nituben has integrated her expertise into naturopathy, creating a variety of wellness products. Today, she contributes to projects for lake reclamation, carbon credits, ESG, and the production of biochar from invasive biomass.
Sowing the Seeds of Change - Sajeevan Life Pvt Ltd
Inspired by her experiences and learning, Nituben founded Sajeevan Life Pvt Ltd, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting natural farming and rural development. Her work in Gujarat has brought about a remarkable transformation in the farming sector.
One of her most significant achievements under Sajeevan was the swift registration of 84 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) within a span of just 45 days. These FPOs not only connect farmers to government schemes but also promote sustainable, economical farming practices.
In addition, Nituben initiated an Internal Cluster System (ICS) in collaboration with the Gujarat Government. This system streamlined the process of certifying organic farmers, particularly benefiting farmers in tribal and hill states. Over 13,500 farmers of the Dang district in Gujarat have been certified as organic farmers under her leadership, making the district the first to achieve complete organic farming status in the state.
From Soil to Kitchen - The Farm to Plate Model
Nituben established a functional "Farm to Plate" system in Rajkot, enabling farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers, cutting out middlemen. This arrangement ultimately benefits both farmers and consumers, ensuring fair prices for growers and better nutritional choices for consumers.
Later this month, she is set to launch a quick commerce model for the supply of fresh organic vegetables, fruits, and dairy directly to homes. Meanwhile, her non-perishable items like mustard oil, ghee, and khapli wheat are already being marketed online through various platforms. This move enables her to reach urban consumers and establish a loyal base for genuinely chemical-free products.

A Well-Deserved Recognition
Though Nituben's initial recognition came through our site and the "Khoj" program, she had initially shied away from publicity. It was only when her mentor suggested she should share her efforts to expand her reach that she started sharing her story. An embodiment of nature-based agriculture, Nituben continues to work tirelessly through her firm SanJeevan Life Pvt. Ltd., upholding the principles of natural farming, soil health, and inclusive rural development.
A Leader in GFBN and the Future
Recently, Nituben became a part of the Global Farmer Business Network (GFBN), a nationwide initiative for fostering progressive, sustainable farmers throughout India. As a mentor within GFBN, she imparts her knowledge on natural farming, soil health, and rural development to aspiring agripreneurs, empowering future generations of eco-friendly farmers. Her ambitions are to train more female farmers, expand natural farming across various states, and create a national supply chain for clean, organic food.
A Model for the Next Generation
Nituben's story is not about revenue but about purpose. It reveals a farming model that can be profitable and sustainable, emphasizing the leadership of female farmers and the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with nature. Born in Rajkot soil and inspired by natural wisdom, her journey has become an inspiration for thousands. She demonstrates that agriculture can be more than merely a means of survival – it can serve as a vessel for caring for the environment, local communities, and future generations.
In Nituben's words, "If we nurture the soil, the soil will take care of everything else."
