Singapore Sees Vietnam as a Top Seafood Partner

By jumping into the top four, Vietnam has firmly established itself as a significant seafood player in Singapore's market, following Malaysia, Indonesia, and Norway.

According to the latest figures from Enterprise Singapore, Singapore's seafood imports value reached an impressive SGD 283.6 million in Q1 of 2025, marking a minor year-on-year increase of 1.1%.

Rankings reveal that Malaysia and Indonesia were the leading and second-largest seafood suppliers to Singapore, with export values of SGD 37.4 million and SGD 32.2 million respectively. This amounts to 13.2% and 11.4% of the total market share. Norway grabbed the third position, contributing SGD 30.4 million or 10.7% to the market.

Stepping up to the fourth spot, Vietnam's seafood exports to Singapore reached an impressive SGD 28.7 million, demonstrating a strong 19.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth accounts for roughly 10.1% of Singapore's total market share [1][2].

In a bid to support Vietnamese seafood enterprises in exploring alternative markets amidst tariff concerns with the US, the Vietnamese Trade Office in Singapore held a meeting with the leaders of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) early in April.

The meeting resulted in both sides committing to enhanced collaboration, providing local information, connecting trade, and promoting trade through participations in seafood exhibitions in Singapore. To boost the visibility of Vietnam's seafood products in Singapore, both parties pledged to work together [1][2].

To stay competitive and maintain a strong market presence, the Vietnamese trade office urges seafood producers in Vietnam to concentrate on product quality, frequently updating local regulations, refining product packaging, and elevating product quality and productivity [2].

Insight: To sustain growth and maintain competitiveness in Singapore's seafood market, Vietnamese seafood producers must prioritize quality control, stay informed about local regulations, upgrade packaging, and focus on improving product quality and productivity [3].
