Vietnam and Australia deepen collaboration in trade, investments, and education
Boosting Trade and Investment: Vietnam and Australia Strengthen Ties
In a bid to increase two-way trade to $20 billion and double mutual investment, Vietnam and Australia have agreed to enhance trade and investment cooperation. This decision was made during the 7th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Hanoi in August 2025, co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
To facilitate these connections, seminars and activities are being organized. One such event, held in Sydney on August 14, linked Huế, Điện Biên, and Tây Ninh provinces in Vietnam with Australian partners. The seminar aimed to help Vietnamese enterprises promote products, explore market trends in Australia, and foster two-way business and investment ties.
Representatives from the three Vietnamese provinces highlighted their economic advantages and sought cooperation in various sectors, including tourism and manufacturing. Australian business leaders expressed interest in Vietnam's energy-saving and manufacturing sectors. Nigel Palmer from Business New South Wales called for increased cooperation in education, science, and innovation, building on existing university partnerships.
Alana Kunz from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission emphasized the potential for deeper collaboration between the two countries, particularly in energy and other high-potential industries. Australian delegates praised the economic dynamism and strategic location of Vietnam in Southeast Asia.
The event culminated in the signing of a cooperation agreement between Vietnam's Phương Nam Panel and Australia's Pistis Group, further strengthening local and business ties under the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Australia has also committed to supporting Vietnam in green technology development, infrastructure for energy transition, digital infrastructure, and workforce capacity building through official development assistance (ODA) and investments. Andrew Goledzinowski, former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, forecasted further expansion in exports and investment between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of investment in Vietnam, particularly in areas such as technology, education, agriculture, and energy.
Serge Popovic, Director of C-Coat Insulation Australia, announced plans to expand his company in Vietnam by partnering with local firms and potentially opening a factory. Our Consul General in Sydney, Nguyễn Thanh Tùng, stressed the importance of local-level diplomacy at the event. He pledged that the Consulate General will act as a bridge, supporting Australian partners in connecting with Vietnamese localities in mutually beneficial sectors.
In conclusion, the seminar in Sydney for Vietnamese provinces serves as a platform to connect regional Vietnamese businesses with Australian partners, actively pursuing these ambitious trade and investment goals by fostering direct partnerships and collaborations. The broader bilateral agenda includes expanding trade, encouraging technology transfer, and facilitating investment in key sectors to advance comprehensive strategic partnership commitments.
