VHH Speeds Up Bus Fleet Electrification for Hamburg's 2030 Goal
VHH, Hamburg's public transport operator, is accelerating its bus fleet's electrification. With a dedicated digitization division and its elexity brand, VHH is embracing sustainable mobility. The company aims to meet Hamburg's 2030 goal of completely emission-free buses.
VHH's eBus fleet, mainly consisting of Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and MAN Lion's City models, is set to grow. The company currently operates 135 electric and 10 hybrid buses, with only emission-free buses acquired since 2020. This includes the first electric bus, a Rampini minibus, put into service in 2014 and still running today.
Digitization plays a pivotal role in this transition. VHH has a division dedicated to coordinating this process. The elexity brand oversees sustainable mobility aspects, including infrastructure adaptation and ensuring 100% green electricity usage. The company plans to charge eBuses during night hours in bus depots, considering energy consumption and short-term influencing factors in vehicle scheduling.
By 2024, VHH plans to have 289 vehicles in its fleet, all emission-free. This significant expansion is part of Hamburg's commitment to clean public transport. Despite the lack of specific information about charging time management, VHH's dedication to digitization and sustainable practices ensures a smooth transition towards a greener future.
