In the heart of Kazakhstan's industrial sector, the Astana Electrotechnical Plant (AETP) stands as a beacon of progress and innovation. Established 13 years ago, AETP has risen to become a leader in its field, boasting numerous successful projects, thousands of products, and modern workshops staffed by a team of dedicated specialists.
One such specialist is Sergei Belay, a graduate of the Astana Professional Technical College. Sergei's story, along with others like it, helps shape positive attitudes towards labor, emphasizing dignity, professionalism, and prospects.
Sergei's journey began during his student days when he participated in the WorldSkills championship. His affinity for tools, nurtured since childhood, led him to blue-collar work at AETP, where he currently works as a fitter-assembler.
For Sergei, the appeal of blue-collar work lies in the tangible results it offers. He prefers active work over office work, finding satisfaction in seeing the fruits of his labour. He earns at least 300,000 tenge per month, with the possibility of earning more depending on his workload.
AETP values its returning employees who have completed their student practice, considering them the best reward for their investment in nurturing young professionals. Many students who intern at AETP choose to stay with the company after graduation, drawn by the plant's commitment to training, good working conditions, and promising career prospects.
The plant provides its employees with special clothing, a cafeteria, and a stable schedule. It prioritizes the training of young professionals, with university and college students regularly coming for internships to learn on real production lines and work with equipment.
Kazakhstan's industrial production grew by 6.5% in the first half of 2025, reflecting a positive environment for skilled blue-collar jobs, especially in mining and manufacturing. The training of young professionals in these sectors is critical, with programs aimed at developing skills relevant to Kazakhstan's expanding energy and manufacturing industries.
The evolving industrial and energy landscape in Kazakhstan offers expanding opportunities. The government and industry stakeholders are investing in training young professionals to meet technical requirements for these modern industries, supporting career growth from entry-level blue-collar positions to technical and managerial roles.
In conclusion, blue-collar work in Kazakhstan, including at Astana Electrotechnical Plant, involves a blend of manual and technical skills focused on industrial and energy sectors. The country is experiencing industrial growth, driving demand for skilled workers and modernization of training programs for young professionals. Training emphasizes practical and technical education to prepare workers for career advancement within Kazakhstan’s growing energy, nuclear, and manufacturing industries. Career prospects are increasingly favorable due to ongoing large-scale energy projects and government-industry collaborations aiming to build a highly skilled workforce.
