Unmasked: Thai Fronts Unveiled as Cover for Illicit Chinese Electronic Payment Operations

In a significant development, the Economic Crime Division of the CIB led a series of raids on ten premises in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani, targeting five e-money companies owned by Chinese investors. These companies, including TDAR, BTR Import and Export, OTE, Anan Cargo Express, and Your Baobao, are now under investigation.

The raids, announced by Pol Maj Gen Thatphum Jaruprat on Wednesday, uncovered evidence suggesting that these companies had been using online platforms for cashless transactions, and that the money generated through these systems exceeded 400 million baht.

During the raids, equipment and documents were seized, and twelve suspects were taken into custody. However, as of the latest information, the identities of the key individuals involved in these operations remain undisclosed.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to expand their efforts to arrest the Chinese kingpins behind these companies. The raids are part of a broader action against companies suspected of using nominees to operate in Thailand.

While specific updates on the investigation's progress or outcomes, such as arrests or charges, are not yet available, the police have confirmed that the investigation is expanding. Further details about the nature of the illegal activities conducted through the platforms were not specified.

Official statements or updates from the Thai authorities involved in the investigation would provide more detailed insights into this ongoing case. As the investigation unfolds, the public will be kept informed about any significant developments.

The seized equipment and documents have provoked suspicions that the e-money companies, such as TDAR and BTR Import and Export, may have been involved in illicit finance activities within the industry, as the money generated exceeded 400 million baht. The police are intensifying their efforts to apprehend the Chinese masterminds, focusing on a broader crackdown against companies using nominees to maneuver within Thailand's financial sector.
