Turkey's primary stock market index exceeds 11,000 for the first time in a twelve-month period
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Turkey's BIST 100 stock index reached a 1-year high of around 11,000 points, marking a significant milestone in the country's stock market.
The BIST 100 index, which serves as a benchmark for the Turkish stock market, started the day at 10,940.60 points and rose more than 1% to approximately 11,010.60 points by 10:45 a.m. GMT, surpassing the 11,000-point level last seen in July 2024.
This rise reflects a 10.5% gain since the beginning of the year, with nearly 9% of those gains occurring in the last month alone. The index has not reached the 11,000-point level since July 2024.
The positive sentiment in the market was boosted by several factors. Anticipated interest rate cuts by Turkey’s Central Bank (CBRT) and positive quarterly financial results from companies listed on Borsa Istanbul played a significant role. Despite earlier concerns about high interest rates impacting profitability, the better-than-expected Q2 2025 corporate earnings provided a positive outlook.
The broader global environment also contributed positively. U.S. and European futures were trading higher, and progress in U.S. trade negotiations supported a risk-on mood.
In summary, a confluence of strong domestic earnings, central bank policy expectations, and favorable international market conditions drove the BIST 100 to its 1-year peak at the 11,000-point mark in early August 2025. The trading volume of the BIST 100 was TL 61.7 billion.
