Trump plans a lavish $200 million renovation project for the White House's grand ballroom

President Donald Trump has announced a $200 million construction project to build a new ballroom at the White House. The project, set to begin in September 2025, aims to provide a large event space within the White House complex, eliminating the need for external tents during major official functions.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the design emphasises preserving the historic and aesthetic integrity of the White House while expanding its capacity for large-scale events. The new ballroom, expected to be completed well before the end of Trump's term, will cover more than 8,000 square meters and accommodate up to 650 seated guests.

The design of the new ballroom will draw influence from the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, with the structure featuring tall windows and a facade reminiscent of the main White House building, complete with stately columns. The project is being funded by President Trump, private donors, and is described as a long-overdue addition to the White House complex.

The East Wing, which currently houses the offices of the first lady, will be replaced by the new ballroom. The construction timelines for the ballroom have not yet been released, but planning is already underway. The new ballroom is intended for hosting official receptions and grand state events, including grand state dinners for visiting foreign heads of state.

President Trump has previously redecorated the Oval Office with gold accents, and this new project continues his vision of transforming the White House. The new White House ballroom model presents a state-of-the-art venue that will preserve the historic character of the executive mansion.

The construction project is shaping up to be the most significant architectural addition at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. since President Theodore Roosevelt's expansion at the start of the 20th century. The new ballroom, named after Trump, has already been praised by him at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.
