Sparking Progress: Novokoltsovsky's New Tram Line
Tramway construction plan in Novo-Koltsov approved by Ekaterinburg officials.
Here's some groovy news for the folks residing in and around Yekaterinburg! The city's super cool mayor, Alexei Orlov, is giving the green light for a new tram line in Novokoltsovsky. Yabadabadoo! Expected to hit the tracks by 2045, this baby's gonna stretch a whopping 14.2 km and stop at 22 stations, running from the ring road on Ulitsa Yuliusa Fuchika to the Novokoltsovsky microdistrict.
A mighty depot will be constructed to support this sweet ride, spanning over nine hectares. This line will stitch together six neighborhoods—the southern part of the city center, Botanichesky, Uktus, Chapayevsky, Ptitsefabrika, and Novokoltsovsky—making commuting a breeze for everybody!
While the tram's a-traveling, nine sections of the road network will get a facelift. Here's the lowdown on those beautification projects:
- Ulitsa Krestinskogo will see some love from Akademika Shvarts to house No. 55 (615 m)
- Ulitsa Shcherbakov will shine from Samoletnaya to Lyzhniki (1430 m)
- Ulitsa Lyzhniki will get a revamp from Shcherbakov to Roshchinskaya (710 m)
- Ulitsa Roshchinskaya, along with Ulitsa Altayskaya, and the bit leading up to building No. 62 (330 m)
- Another stretch of Ulitsa Altayskaya will bring it all the way to the Svetly microdistrict
- Ulitsa Varshavskaya will glisten from Sibirsky Takt to Novosinyarsky Boulevard (910 m)
- Novosinyarsky Boulevard will shine from Varshavskaya to Vystavochnaya (2145 m)
- Ulitsa Vystavochnaya will catch the light from Novosinyarsky Boulevard to the prospective Alexeevsky Boulevard (1 km)
And fear no more about finding your way on this totally tubular trip—woohoo! Cyclists will enjoy sidewalks and bike paths, two to five meters wide, snaking along the route.
Remember our post about the potential tram line in Novokoltsovsky? Well, guess who dropped some heavy knowledge: the ex-Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Yevgeny Kuivashev, and the big cheese at "Sinaра - Transportnye Mashiny" (STM), Alexander Misharin. They spilled the beans on some possible parameters for the construction of this snazzy streetcar system—yeah, baby!
At the "Cities of Russia" forum, Kuivashev ballparked the figure needed to fund this magnificent move—around 12-15 billion rubles. That's a big chunk of change, but it'll be worth it when Novokoltsovsky is all hooked up!
