Crank up the excitement, folks! This year, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan is pulling out all the stops to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey to Lake Alakol during the tourist season. The closure of Urjar village's airport for renovation has given us an opportunity to boost rail access to Jalanaashkol station, according to "Kazinform."
Brace yourself for increased train services on four major routes: Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Ust-Kamenogorsk, and Semey. Here's a rundown of what you can expect:
From the scenic city of Almaty, eight attached carriages with 352 seats are running regularly on even days. But the excitement isn't over yet! Starting June 18, a whopping new train "Almaty - Dostyk" with 11 carriages and 504 seats will make its debut, roaring three times a week. Joining forces with a private carrier, there will be an added 12 carriages and 560 seats traversing the same route, making a grand total of 31 carriages ready to whisk you eastward towards Lake Alakol.
Meanwhile, from the capital city, Nur-Sultan, two trains "Nur-Sultan - Dostyk" with a combined total of 24 carriages and 912 seats are ready to depart twice a week. An additional summer train has started operations from June 1, adding another 10 carriages and 456 seats. As of June 18, a new private carrier will join the fray with four attached carriages and 176 seats on board.
When it comes to the eastern towns of Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk, they’ve upped their game this summer too. Head out with eight and seven carriages, respectively, packed with 416 and 364 seats for a truly enjoyable ride. In comparison to last year's five carriages with a mere 260 seats, the increase by 50% is quite a pleasant surprise for travel enthusiasts!
Speaking of surprises, Lake Alakol's passengers can now enjoy the comfort of doubled bus services, with 16 buses and a seating capacity of 768 seats! That's right; a total of 16 buses will be making the rounds daily.
