Toyota NZ Streamlines Camry Range, Drops Lower Grades
Toyota New Zealand has simplified its Camry lineup, dropping the lower GX and SX trims. The move aligns with shifting customer preferences towards SUVs, as Camry sales lag behind similar-sized models like the RAV4.
The top-of-the-line ZR trim remains the best-selling Camry in New Zealand. Despite its 'dedicated following', overall Camry sales have been decreasing. By August, Camry had registered only 180 sales, contrasting sharply with the 6221 sales of the RAV4 in the same period. Toyota attributes this change to evolving customer preferences and the rising demand for SUVs.
The flagship ZR trim continues to be offered, priced at $57,990. Toyota's focus on the high-end model may be part of a broader strategy to concentrate on selected news-making models, considering market conditions, production costs, and customer preferences.
The Camry's lower trims have been discontinued in New Zealand, leaving only the ZR trim. This change reflects a shift in customer preferences towards SUVs, leading to declining Camry sales. Toyota's concentration on the high-end model suggests a strategic focus on selected news-worthy models.
