Tata Motors Introduces New Adventure X Range for Harrier and Safari SUVs
Today's Round-up: Launch of Tata Harrier and Safari Adventure X, Arrival of Tesla Supercharger in India, Toyota Innova celebrates 20 years
Tata Motors has expanded its flagship SUV lineup with the launch of the Adventure X range for the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. Both models share the same fundamental platform and engine, but differ in size, seating, features, and price.
Key Features and Differences
The Tata Harrier Adventure X and Tata Safari Adventure X Plus cater to different customer needs. The Harrier Adventure X, priced at Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), is a feature-rich, 5-seater mid-size SUV with a strong road presence and manageable urban maneuverability. On the other hand, the Tata Safari Adventure X Plus, starting at Rs 19.99 lakh, is a larger, 7-seater SUV offering more space, advanced safety features, and flexibility suited to bigger families.
Both SUVs feature the OMEGARC architecture (Land Rover-derived D8), a 2.0L diesel engine with 168 BHP and 350 Nm, 17-inch alloys for the Harrier and 18-inch alloys for the Safari, and a choice between 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic torque converter transmissions.
The interior finishes differ, with black leatherette seats with tan accents for the Harrier and an oak-inspired tan color interior for the Safari. The driver assistance and safety features are similar, including Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, six airbags, ESC, and an electronic parking brake. The Safari Adventure X Plus additionally offers quad disc braking and an enhanced braking system.
Practical Implications
The Harrier Adventure X targets buyers wanting a feature-packed mid-size SUV with a strong road presence but manageable urban maneuverability and a five-seater layout. The Safari Adventure X Plus, on the other hand, is designed for larger families or users needing seven seats, more cabin space, and slightly more advanced safety and braking features, justifying the approximate Rs 1 lakh premium.
Comparison With Other Similarly Priced SUVs in India
At prices around Rs 19 lakh, both SUVs offer strong feature bundles like Level 2 ADAS tech, panoramic sunroofs, and connected car tech, which are often limited or unavailable at this price point for many competitors. They also provide diesel engine options with good power and refinement, a segment where many rivals have shifted focus to petrol or mild hybrids. The distinctive SUVs with rugged styling and Land Rover-derived platforms are unique selling points compared to mass-market sedans and other compact SUVs.
Compared to similarly priced SUVs like the MG Hector, Hyundai Tucson (base variants), or Kia Seltos top trims, the Tata Harrier and Safari Adventure X variants stand out for more advanced driver assistance system availability (ADAS Level 2), better off-road credentials via trail modes and rugged styling, and the 7-seat option in the Safari, uncommon in this price bracket. However, rivals may offer better petrol engine options, slightly more refined interiors, or other brand-specific advantages depending on buyer preference.
