The European Commission unveils a fresh initiative to foster Internet adoption across the EU.
The International Garden Exhibition (IGA 2027) is gearing up for an exciting transformation at RheinPark Duisburg-Hochfeld. With several construction projects underway and new tours planned, the event promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for all attendees.
### Construction Projects
The development of RheinPark is not just about aesthetics; it's about modernising and enhancing the park to strengthen its role as a significant public space in southern Duisburg. Key projects include landscape and park development, infrastructure improvements, the construction of expo pavilions and event spaces, environmental and sustainability projects, and upgrading transport and connectivity.
1. Landscape and Park Development: The park will be transformed with thematic gardens, green spaces, and water installations. 2. Infrastructure Improvements: New visitor facilities such as pathways, viewing platforms, rest areas, and accessibility enhancements are being built. 3. Expo Pavilions and Event Spaces: Construction is underway for pavilions for exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. 4. Environmental and Sustainability Projects: Sustainable water management and renewable energy features will be integrated into the park design. 5. Transport and Connectivity: Access routes, parking areas, and connections to local public transport are being upgraded to ensure easy visitor flow.
### Additional Tours
To enhance the visitor experience, several guided tours have been planned. These include expert-led garden tours, eco-tours, cultural and art tours, family and children's tours, and special interest tours such as birdwatching, botanical studies, or architectural exploration of the new structures.
The tours are open to all interested parties and registration is required at anmeldung@wb-duisburg.de. Participation is free, and two additional evening tours are being held on July 24 and August 28, from 5 to 7 pm, at the Liebigstraße parking lot.
### The Skywalk's New Observation Platform
One of the most anticipated developments is the Skywalk's new observation platform, expected to be completed by October this year. This new addition will offer a unique view of the IGA site and the Rhine, providing a perfect spot for visitors to take in the beauty of the park.
The construction progress on the expansive IGA site is visible, with earthworks at the Kultushafen progressing rapidly. Around 8,000 tons of material are being removed to redesign a 7,500 sqm area.
### Looking Ahead
With construction projects such as the expansion of the skate park, the construction of an inclusive playground, and work on the central entrance area of the RheinPark (Hochfeldallee), set to begin by the end of this year, the anticipation for IGA 2027 is growing.
Mayor Sören Link and the new CEO of the Economic Operations of Duisburg, Sebastian Beck, were present at a recent public tour, informing around 40 visitors about these developments. The visitors showed great interest and anticipation, eagerly awaiting the IGA 2027.
For the latest updates, checking the official IGA 2027 website or Duisburg city announcements closer to the event dates is recommended. The IGA 2027 is expected to greatly enrich Duisburg in the long term.
- The development of the park's infrastructure extends beyond aesthetics, venturing into finance and technology, with construction projects such as expo pavilions, renovation of transport systems, and sustainability projects that incorporate renewable energy.
- As part of improving the visitor experience, various business endeavors have been planned, including guided tours that cater to diverse interests such as art, culture, and nature, with free registration available at anmeldung@wb-duisburg.de. The Skywalk's new observation platform, scheduled for completion in October, is among the technological advancements that promise an enhanced experience.
