Tesla inaugurates two Superchargers in Severn, Ontario, with an unusual setup.
Tesla Opens Dual Supercharger Stations in Severn, Ontario
Tesla has recently opened two new Supercharger stations in Severn, Ontario, located on either side of Highway 11. The unique design of these stations addresses the challenge posed by the divided highway, providing a convenient charging solution for drivers traveling in both directions.
The new Supercharger stations consist of two separate 8-stall V4 Supercharger stations—one on each side of Highway 11. The northbound station is for drivers heading toward Muskoka and northern Ontario, while the southbound station is for those traveling toward Barrie or further south. Despite being on opposite sides of the highway, the two sites are connected via a pedestrian overpass, allowing drivers to easily cross between the stations to access amenities like Webers’ popular burger stand while charging their vehicles.
Tesla planned this dual-station approach from the start to effectively serve both directions of the divided highway without requiring drivers to cross busy lanes at-grade or detour significantly. The construction of the Severn Supercharger stations was accelerated through Tesla's prefabricated installation process, with components pre-assembled at Giga New York and shipped to the site.
Charging fees for non-Tesla owners at the Severn stations are $0.68 per kWh, while Tesla owners can charge for $0.48 per kWh. Both Supercharger stations in Severn were energized over the weekend, ending a 6+ month wait.
