Tegna Promotes Three Individuals to Vice President Positions in Content Division

FRESH TAKE:

Hey there! Let's talk about the new bosses at Tegna. They've just appointed Carol Fowler, Julie Wolfe, and Chris Peña as their Vice Presidents of Content, starting June 30. This move gets in line with Tegna's recent announcement of adding over 100 hours of new daily streaming programming across 51 markets.

According to Adrienne Roark, Tegna's Chief Content Officer, these three powerhouse journalists "each bring deep experience building innovative newsrooms and understand the importance of strong local journalism." They've got a knack for developing talent and creating gripping content that caters to the needs of viewers across platforms.

In their new roles, Fowler, Wolfe, and Peña each oversee local stations in dedicated regions, focusing on the quality, depth, and relevance of coverage, emphasizing local impact, and underlining the daily practical value of information. They have content priorities like weather coverage, big stories and events, morning news strategy, sales and sponsorships, storytelling, investigative journalism, and journalism that offers solutions.

These new leaders will work closely with general managers, news directors, and newsroom staff, who will maintain editorial leadership at Tegna's local stations, to strengthen storytelling and coverage capabilities.

Carol Fowler, a celebrated digital content strategist with over 30 years of experience, will oversee the Mid-South stations, including St. Louis, Knoxville, Memphis, Louisville, Fort Smith, Little Rock, and New Orleans. Before this, Fowler led content strategy at WXIA, Tegna's NBC affiliate in Atlanta, where her team won 23 regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards.

Julie Wolfe, the news director at KING, Tegna's NBC affiliate in Seattle, will oversee the West region. Under her leadership, KING took home 11 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, including overall excellence, this year. Prior to this, she served as news director for WHAS, Tegna’s ABC affiliate in Louisville.

Chris Peña will oversee the Midwest region, managing operations in Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Des Moines, Davenport, and Minneapolis. Previously, he was senior vice president of news at Univision Local Media, where he led multi-platform content strategy and branding across 19 television stations.

These appointments are a strategic investment by Tegna in local news content, a move aimed at fostering stronger, more engaging local news coverage across their station portfolio in the Mid-South, West, and Midwest regions.
