Stellantis' CEO role shifts to U.S., yet performance remains underwhelming.
Stellantis Appoints Antonio Filosa as New CEO, Effective June 23
Starting June 23, Italian business executive Antonio Filosa will assume the role of CEO at automaker Stellantis, the parent company of Opel and other global brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo.
During his tenure of 25 years in the industry, Filosa has honed his skills, progressing from positions in Europe and South America to ultimately overseeing operations in the Americas. Prior to his appointment, he served as the COO for Stellantis' Americas operations, and as the Chief Quality Officer, leading expansion and market leadership initiatives in North and South America.
Carlos Tavares, the preceding CEO, left his post in early December due to internal disputes over market strategy. These disagreements, primarily focused on improving the company's performance in the struggling North American market, have been addressed by Filosa's appointment.
Filosa's extensive operational experience and success in various brands and markets make him a suitable choice for leading Stellantis. He is recognized for his hands-on leadership and deep understanding of the business, as well as his track record of operational success.
Originally from Castellammare di Stabia near Naples, Italy, Filosa obtained an engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Milan and an Executive MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral in Brazil. He began his career at Fiat in 1999 and worked his way up to several key roles within the company.
Filosa has a distinguished career within the firm, having served as the chief operating officer for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in South America and being appointed CEO of the Jeep brand in 2023, with the aim of reversing declining sales trends in North America. Since being named Stellantis' COO for the Americas and Chief Quality Officer, Filosa has effectively led operations and brand growth in both North and South America.
In May 2025, Filosa was chosen as Stellantis' new CEO, following a prolonged selection process and succeeding Tavares due to a decrease in company profits and sales. Starting on June 23, he will officially take the reins as CEO of the multinational automaker.
- As the new CEO of Stellantis, Antonio Filosa will bring his extensive experience in various industries, including finance, transportation, and the automotive sector, to lead the company's growth strategies.
- In his previous roles at Stellantis, Filosa demonstrated success in driving operational improvements and market expansion, particularly in the finance and transportation sectors, which are crucial for the company's future.
