Solar Project Expansion Planned: 47 Foreign Companies Interested in Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park's Notable Phase in Dubai

In a significant stride towards renewable energy, Dubai has commissioned the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, reinforcing its position as a global leader in the low-carbon energy shift [1]. This phase, one of the world's largest renewable energy projects, integrates solar power generation with energy storage solutions.

The commissioning of phase 7 signifies that it is now operational, contributing additional clean energy capacity to Dubai's grid [1]. Although specific technical details about this phase, such as the exact capacity, storage technology used, or completion date, were not immediately available, the event demonstrates that phase 7 is active and part of Dubai’s broader renewable energy expansion efforts.

The solar park project follows the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model and is backed by a strategic partnership with a Deloitte-led consortium. Saeed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), made the announcement during a high-level forum at the Ritz Carlton Dubai [2].

The project is structured for regulatory compliance, investor outreach, and long-term sustainability. The seventh phase will deliver over 1,600 megawatts (MW) of solar power, taking the total planned capacity of the solar park to 7,260MW [3]. By 2030, it is expected to generate 4.5 terawatt-hours of clean electricity annually [4].

The development will also help push the clean energy share in Dubai’s energy mix to 34%, surpassing the original 25% target [5]. Moreover, it is expected to cut carbon emissions by eight million tonnes each year [6].

The solar park project has garnered interest from over 47 international firms, who have shown interest in developing the seventh phase [7]. The event brought together over 100 global solar and storage industry leaders [8].

The success of the solar park project will eliminate the need to burn 36 billion cubic feet of natural gas [9], further underscoring Dubai's commitment to a sustainable future.
