Social media transformed me into a business owner
Unleashing the Success of Nurture Skin:
In this tech-savvy world, social media giants like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and more, are shaking up the game – providing massive market opportunities and giving entrepreneurs a platform to escalate their brand image. This week, we delve into the inspiring journey of Dr. Alberta Amissah Asiedu, a medical doctor who's leveraging social media to skyrocket her business.
Hailing from Koforidua, this dynamic woman is an alumna of Holy Child Senior High School and Zhejiang University in China. Post her medical studies, she spent some years in China, teaching, before returning to Ghana to practice as a doctor.
With a keen business acumen, much like her parents, Alberta didn't only rest her laurels on the medical front. She seized chances to explore business avenues, acting as an intermediary for doctors and other professionals seeking to procure medical equipment from China.
One fateful day, while scrolling through Instagram, she stumbled upon an advertisement for a soap-making training program. She jumped on board, attended the workshops and invested a mere GH¢50. After tinkering with her newfound skills, she introduced her creations to friends, family, and colleagues. The unanimous positive feedback from them whetted her appetite to expand her product line.
As a medical doctor, Alberta believed that her new venture should be backed by solid research and training in cosmetics. She enrolled in a UK-based diploma course, offered by Formula Botanica, an organic cosmetic formulation school. Post her training, she was battle-ready to broaden her product range, including body creams, scrubs, and other skincare essentials that could help individuals achieve radiant, luminous skin.

What sets Nurture Skin apart?
According to Alberta, her medical background is a significant factor that sets Nurture Skin apart, as it allows her to choose ingredients that are beneficial to the skin and avoid those that may cause harm.
"Being a medical doctor, it facilitates understanding the skin and selecting the right ingredients for my products, ensuring they deliver the desired results. Our products are made from premium, gluten-free natural ingredients that assure a smooth skincare experience," she asserted.
The prices of Nurture Skin products are customer-friendly, catering to diverse segments of society, while the packaging remains top-notch.
Vision for the Future:
Nurture Skin aims to expand its footprint, opening multiple stores across Ghana and even venturing into international markets to establish itself as a renowned skincare brand.
Alberta also plans to open an aesthetic clinic that will address a variety of skin concerns using modern technologies. This isn't just about improving her business; she envisions creating job opportunities for many.
Expanding Nurture Skin's philanthropic arm to provide sanitary pads for underprivileged girls in rural areas is another goal that Alberta cherishes dearly. Currently, a fraction of the company's profits are allocated for this cause.
Challenges:
Being an entrepreneur is fraught with obstacles. For Alberta, sourcing raw materials and packaging materials from overseas, coupled with high operational costs, pose significant challenges. Additionally, the prevalent demand for bleaching products and competition from companies peddling skin-harming concoctions is something she grapples with regularly.
Reliable delivery services and the increasing transportation costs are other hurdles Alberta encounters in her entrepreneurial journey.
Government Support:
Alberta believes that government intervention, in the form of policies that simplify and lower the cost of doing business, can significantly boost the entrepreneurial landscape in Ghana.
Empowering Women:
Alberta is a firm believer in the economic empowerment of women, emphasizing that this is crucial in today's dynamic world. "It's not just about personal empowerment; it's about collaboration in ensuring a better future for all," she added.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs:
In Alberta's eyes, potential entrepreneurs need to be resolute and mentally prepared for the challenges they may face. "Entrepreneurship isn't a walk in the park; it requires grit and determination. Even if you're not naturally entrepreneurial, you can learn, grow, and succeed," she concluded.
