Sixth Gauselmann Casino to Open in Siegburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, in 2025
The East Westphalian gambling company, Gauselmann, has announced plans to open a Merkur Spielbank in Siegburg, marking the sixth and final location in North Rhine-Westphalia. The casino, scheduled for the second half of 2025, is expected to be one of the most modern in Germany, spanning 3,000 square meters.
The casino will feature 250 slot machines for small games and ten tables for Blackjack, Poker, and Roulette for large games. This will make it slightly smaller than the nearby Merkur Spielbank in Monheim, which opened in March 2023.
The chosen site for the casino in Siegburg is a cornfield in the floodplain of the Sieg. The investment volume for the development of the property in Siegburg's Zange II industrial area is estimated at 35 million euros.
Obtaining various permits and initiating measures are necessary for Gauselmann to develop the property. In a council meeting on 11.12.2023, it was unanimously decided to sell the plot in the Zange II industrial area to Gauselmann AG, allowing the casino project to move to the next phase.
The Gauselmann Group, responsible for opening four state-owned locations in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021, has generated around 3.5 billion euros in annual turnover and employed nearly 15,000 people as of current. The company positions itself as an employer that emphasizes quality in training, sustainability, and player protection.
The Siegburg Mayor, Stefan Rosemann, expressed joy at the Gauselmann Group's choice of location, stating that the city offers another attraction for visitors from the entire region and will create new socially insured jobs.
The Gauselmann Group's focus has diversified beyond slot machines, including investments in other gaming companies and casinos on cruise ships. The company has also secured the right to operate up to six locations in Germany's most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, after taking over four existing casinos in 2021.
As of August 2025, specific details on the current development status, features, or projected visitor numbers for the proposed Merkur Spielbank in Siegburg remain unavailable from recent sources. However, with the project moving forward, residents and visitors alike are eagerly awaiting the opening of this modern gaming and entertainment facility.
In addition, the Gauselmann Group is planning to operate ten existing locations in Lower Saxony from autumn 2024. The company's continued expansion in the gaming industry is a testament to its success and commitment to providing quality gaming experiences for its customers.
