Revamped! World Motor Sport Council Wrap-Up: Sustainability, Safety, and Thrilling Racing Ahead

With a buzz in the air, the global motorsport community is abuzz as the FIA's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) convened in Macau, ushering in the second session of 2025. Chaired by President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the council deliberated key decisions, initiatives, and updates that will set the stage for an electrifying racing season ahead.

Kicking off the meeting, Ben Sulayem warmly welcomed the Members, expressing excitement over the year's progress across all championships. Reiterating the Federation's impressive financial turnaround, he underscored the organization's newfound financial sustainability, netting a €4.7 million profit in 2024, a significant milestone since his election.

As the Federation takes a giant leap towards sustainability, the council approved the first-ever set of safety regulations for liquid hydrogen-powered vehicles. Industry experts, hailing from sectors like aerospace and automotive, collaborated on this framework. Key safety measures integrated into these regulations include pressure-tested compartments, hydrogen leak detection systems, and boil-off limits to ensure the safety of participants and spectators alike.

The WMSC also announced Malaysia as the host for the inaugural FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup. Scheduled for November 14-16, 2025, this event promises to level the playing field and support emerging talent through a cost-effective approach, ensuring technical parity for a diverse array of drivers from across the globe. The top three finishers in each category will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the FIA's Karting Excellence Centre.

Additionally, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to commence its 2025-2026 season with a bang, boasting a record 18-race calendar.
