Second Captains Expands with Live Events, Maintains Profit Despite Fee Dip

Second Captains, the popular Irish sports podcast, has announced live events near me in Dublin and London for 2024. The company, with 18,694 paying subscribers, generates an estimated €1.1 million annually from subscriptions.

Second Captains Ltd, founded by broadcaster Eoin McDevitt and four colleagues, employs seven people. Five directors, including the hosts, share a 20% stake each in the company. In 2024, they received an aggregate €114,000 in pay, averaging €22,800 per director.

The five hosts also earned €143,000 each in production fees, totalling €715,000. This was a 2% decrease from the previous year's €745,000. Despite this, the company recorded a modest profit of €1,067 in 2024, following a profit of €4,711 in 2023.

Second Captains produced nine hours of material for RTÉ radio in 2024, demonstrating its growing influence in Irish broadcasting.

With live events planned and a substantial subscriber base, Second Captains continues to expand its reach. Despite a slight decrease in production fees, the company maintains a profitable trajectory, indicating a strong future for the podcast and its hosts.
