Schweinfurt Audit Exposes Labor Law Violations in Hairdressing and Cosmetics Industry
Authorities in Schweinfurt have conducted a thorough inspection of the local hairdressing and cosmetics industry, uncovering potential labour law violations in several businesses. The Schweinfurt Customs Office, part of the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit, carried out the regional special audit.
The audit, which took place in 2025, involved 90 officials inspecting 79 businesses and surveying 166 individuals. It was part of a risk-oriented approach to combat unrecognized work and the illegal labor market. The search revealed several indications of possible violations, including withholding wages, non-payment of minimum wage, illegal employment of foreign workers, and social benefits fraud. Mandatory notification and recording obligations were also found to be deficient in many businesses.
The inspection led to the initiation of 17 on-site investigations due to suspected violations. Further investigations are ongoing, with data from employee interviews being reconciled with company records to ensure accurate and fair assessments.
The regional special audit in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry has highlighted the importance of compliance with labour laws and regulations. The Schweinfurt Customs Office, as part of its risk-oriented approach, will continue to conduct such audits to prevent undeclared work and illegal employment. Businesses are reminded to adhere to mandatory notification and recording obligations to maintain a fair and transparent work environment.
