Security agency SBU is overseeing compliance of betting company Parimatch with sanctions, enforced due to its links with Russia and Belarus.

SBU is tracking Parimatch's attempts to evade NBS sanctions.

In the realm of Ukraine's legal framework, the Security Service (SBU) is tasked with unearthing sneaky maneuvers by sanctioned entities looking to skirt the constraints put in place by the National Security and Defense Council's decisions, as stated in their response to RBC-Ukraine.

If the need arises, the SBU proposes that the Council adjusts these restrictions, yet they reserve the right to keep silent on more intricate aspects.

National security is the SBU's top priority, and they're not in the habit of divulging the nitty-gritty details of such operations until a decision has been made. Disclosing classified counterintelligence details could compromise efforts aimed at safeguarding Ukraine's interests.

It's worth noting that a company was added to Ukraine's restricted list, signed into law by the President on March 10, making all its activities unlawful for half a century. In August, a statement was made by KRAIL suggesting that Parimatch, a gambling company, was trying to skirt sanctions through clone sites operating under the BuddyBet brand. Parimatch, however, denies any involvement, attributing the clones to fraudsters.

As for the SBU's approach to sanctions enforcement in the gambling industry, details are scant. However, considering their general responsibilities in combating economic crimes and enforcing gambling regulations, it's safe to assume the SBU and the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) work together to ensure compliance.

Ukraine has established cooperative channels with foreign nations, which could be employed to root out sanctions evasion across industries, including the gambling sector. Further investigation and enforcement actions would be necessary to comprehend specific cases of sanctions evasion within the gambling industry.

  1. The Security Service (SBU) could find it challenging to navigate the finance industry and fintech, as entities within these spheres might try to evade sanctions, similar to the gambling industry, as seen with Parimatch and clone sites.
  2. The SBU's work in the general news realm might extend to uncovering politics-backed maneuvers in the gambling sector, as some companies might attempt to exploit loopholes in sanctions to continue their operations, like the added company in the said realm.
  3. The SBU's collaboration with foreign authorities could play a crucial role in policing not only the gambling industry but also other industries (such as finance and fintech) in terms of enforcing sanctions and combating economic crimes.
