San Antonio Launches $1.4M Grant Program for Small Businesses Affected by City Construction
San Antonio is launching a new $1.4 million grant program to support small businesses affected by city-led construction projects. The program, initiated by the Economic Development Department, includes three separate grants: Stabilization Construction Grant, Mitigation Construction Grant, and Accelerate Recovery Grant.
Applications for the Stabilization and Recovery grants open on May 1, with the Mitigation Grant application period starting June 2. The Accelerate Recovery Grant supports businesses along recently completed construction roads, providing $120,000 for up to 24 businesses to make exterior or interior improvements.
The Mitigation Construction Grant targets businesses preparing for major upcoming projects. It allocates $80,000 for up to 40 businesses along Marbach Road to cover marketing and signage expenses. The Stabilization Construction Grant, backed by $1 million, offers up to $35,000 to eligible businesses along streets like South Alamo and within the Zona Cultural, benefiting an estimated 266 businesses.
City data shows that past construction-related grants improved small business survival rates, particularly in the food and accommodation sectors.
The new grant program aims to help small businesses thrive despite construction-related disruptions. Applications for the first two grants open soon, with the third grant's application period starting in June. Businesses can apply for these grants to cover various expenses and make improvements, ensuring they remain competitive and sustainable.
