Rothschild & Co, a leading global financial institution, has made a strategic move to enhance its offerings in Switzerland by acquiring Tenalis AG, a Zurich-based independent advisory firm specialising in inheritance law and related areas such as succession planning, will execution, estate divisions, advance care directives, real estate, and taxation services.

The acquisition, made through Rothschild & Co Bank's Swiss Wealth Management arm, is designed to expand Rothschild & Co's suite of services for high-net-worth clients in Switzerland, particularly in the domains of succession planning, taxation, and real estate consulting.

Founder and former CEO of Tenalis, Jacqueline Schwarz Mattes, expressed excitement about the future collaboration with Rothschild & Co Bank, stating that the integration of Tenalis' expertise is expected to enhance Rothschild's Swiss wealth management division's tailored pension solutions.

Tenalis exclusively serves Swiss clients and will retain its brand and workforce following the acquisition. The existing management of Tenalis will remain unchanged, with Jacqueline Schwarz Mattes continuing as Managing Director, ensuring continuity for clients and employees.

Laurent Gagnebin, CEO of Rothschild's Swiss wealth management division, believes the acquisition will enable them to provide more comprehensive advice to clients. The acquisition positions Rothschild & Co to offer more integrated advisory services, aligning with its long-term investment approach and growth ambitions in Switzerland.

This move by Rothschild & Co reflects a broader industry trend towards offering holistic wealth management solutions that address both financial and legal needs. In May 2023, Rothschild & Co announced the expansion of its wealth management services in Luxembourg, in line with their strategy to enhance private banking offerings across Europe.

The acquisition is strategically beneficial for Rothschild, as it aligns with their approach of long-term comprehensive retirement and succession planning. By broadening its range of advisory offerings, Rothschild & Co enhances its ability to serve Swiss and potentially European clients seeking expertise in complex legal and financial matters related to inheritance and succession.

  1. Rothschild & Co Bank's Swiss Wealth Management arm, after acquiring Tenalis AG, aims to leverage Tenalis' expertise in inheritance law for improving its private banking services, particularly in succession planning and taxation, thus offering a more comprehensive wealth management experience.
  2. As part of the acquisition, Tenalis' AI capabilities could potentially be integrated into Rothschild & Co's wealth management services, enhancing their ability to provide efficient and personalized financial investing strategies to their high-net-worth clients.
  3. With the acquisition of Tenalis AG, Rothschild & Co plans to not only expand its Swiss wealth management division's offerings but also position itself to become a leading provider of holistic wealth management solutions that effectively cater to the complex financial and legal needs of clients across Europe.
