Romanian President Nicusor Dan wooing the Austrian business community at the Salzburg Industrialists' Summit
During his official visit to Austria, President Nicusor Dan attended the Salzburg Industrialists' Summit and highlighted several specific investment opportunities in Romania's defense, energy, infrastructure, and logistics sectors.
In the defense sector, Romania is significantly expanding its industry, offering real opportunities for companies that appreciate the strategic importance of this development. This expansion aims to attract businesses that can contribute to and benefit from the modernization and growth of Romania’s defense capabilities.
The President emphasized Romania's commitment to renewable energy investments, specifically mentioning projects like Neptune Deep, a significant initiative contributing to energy independence and fostering regional cooperation. Additionally, Romania seeks collaboration to connect East-West energy systems with Austria, building a stronger economic partnership and enhancing energy security in Europe.
In the infrastructure sector, Dan announced the imminent completion (within three years) of a key highway linking the port city of Constanța on the Black Sea coast to the Hungarian border. While 100 kilometers in a mountainous region remain under construction, the contract has already been signed. This infrastructure project is vital for improving transit routes for goods and services.
The port of Constanța is identified as a key logistical hub, crucial not only for Romania but for the broader region and projects such as the reconstruction of Ukraine. The Danube River is also highlighted as a major logistical artery enhancing transport and trade capabilities.
President Dan also suggested that Romania could help address Austria's skilled labor shortage by providing a well-educated workforce. The President reaffirmed commitments to medium and long-term political and fiscal stability, including progress toward Romania's OECD membership expected by the end of 2026.
The visit of President Nicusor Dan to Austria is an official one, and it follows President Dan's proposal of a two-way economic partnership between Romania and Austria. The Romanian official also mentioned the collaboration between Austrian expertise and Romania's strategic position for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
