Restaurant closures loom for the salad chain, impacting about a fourth of its establishments.
The restaurant industry has been undergoing significant changes in the wake of the pandemic, with many establishments adapting to the new consumer habits that have emerged. One such chain, Salad and Go, has been feeling the impact of these shifts.
Originally aiming to expand rapidly, Salad and Go had set a goal of reaching 90 locations by the end of 2022 and doubling that number by the end of 2023. However, the chain has faced economic struggles and increased competition, causing it to reconsider its expansion plans.
In addition to these challenges, Salad and Go has closed the majority of its restaurants outside of Texas. This includes the cities of Phoenix, Arizona, and Peoria, Arizona. The chain currently operates two food production facilities, one in Phoenix and another in Dallas.
Another well-known chain, TGI Fridays, filed for bankruptcy in late 2024 and closed 100 locations as a result. The following year, TGI Fridays shuttered an additional 30 locations in April 2025, leaving 85 US locations still in operation.
The struggles faced by Salad and Go and TGI Fridays are not unique. Other chains have also been affected by the changing landscape. For instance, EVOS abruptly closed its three remaining locations earlier this year.
In response to these challenges, chains have been introducing value options to attract customers. Applebee's, for example, offers a 'Whole Lotta Burger' with fries deal for just $9.99, while Chili's offers a $10.99 burger meal.
Denny's, another established chain, has announced plans to close 150 locations by the end of 2025. This move is part of the company's efforts to streamline its operations and focus on its most profitable locations.
As the restaurant industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact the landscape in the coming years.
