Regional Aid Temporarily Headed by Backhaus as Manager
The Redefin State Stud, a renowned equestrian institution in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is currently undergoing a significant transition. Matthias Munz, an economic expert from Lübtheen with extensive leadership experience, has been appointed as the interim manager to steer the stud through this crucial phase.
The appointment comes as part of efforts to address the stud's financial deficit. The state contributes 1.7 million euros per year to the operation of Redefin State Stud, and none of the previously presented concepts have significantly reduced the deficit, according to Thomas Diener, CDU's agricultural expert.
The search for a new permanent operator is set to begin in a few weeks, with the handover scheduled for early 2026 if possible. An expression of interest procedure has been announced to find a suitable operator who can manage the stud efficiently and work towards alleviating the financial shortfall. The aim is to preserve the character of Redefin as a hub for equestrian sports, breeding, training, and culture.
The Agricultural Committee of the state parliament discussed the current developments at Redefin State Stud on Tuesday at the request of the CDU. The committee's discussion, however, did not provide clarity on the specifics of the change in the operating model for Redefin State Stud.
The CDU faction wants to preserve Redefin State Stud, and Diener called for an open discussion about the future path of the stud. Sascha Mummenhoff, Managing Director of the Federation of Taxpayers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, supports the plan to find a private operator for Redefin State Stud, stating that operations solely in state hands would lead to the stud's closure due to budget constraints.
Till Backhaus, the Agriculture Minister, expressed confidence in Munz's ability to steer the operation through this crucial phase. Munz, who has worked for dental companies and was the managing director of Vielanker Brauhaus GmbH, brings a wealth of experience in leading organizations and has served in interim management roles.
During the interim management phase, Redefin State Stud will remain fully open. Events, training offers, and ongoing operations will continue as planned. It remains unclear what the announced change in the operating model exactly means, but the commitment to organizational restructuring and financial stabilization is evident.
The Federation of Taxpayers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the CDU, and the Agricultural Committee all advocate for a transparent discussion about the future of Redefin State Stud. As the search for a new operator begins, the hope is that this transition will lead to a more sustainable and financially viable future for the esteemed Redefin State Stud.
