In a surprising move, Clare Duignan, the Managing Director of RTE Radio, has announced her decision to leave the company at the end of June. Duignan, who has been a passionate advocate for the public service ethos at RTE, has spearheaded the development of the Independent Production Unit in RTE Television and has been instrumental in the success of RTE Radio over the past decade.

Duignan's contribution to RTE Radio has been industry-changing, with the station's arts output, regional coverage, news and current affairs, sport, genre music, drama, documentary being better than ever. Under her leadership, RTE Radio has received hundreds of awards over the last four years, most recently being recognised as International Broadcaster of the Year from the New York Festivals.

Noel Curran, Director General of RTE, considers Duignan a key figure in the company, praising her for her commitment to RTE, its people, and what it stands for. Duignan has maintained and enhanced the quality of RTE Radio despite the challenges faced during her tenure.

Jim Jennings will take up an interim role as Managing Director for RTE Radio in the meantime.
