Super-Fast Tube for Europe: A Bold Ambition for Revolutionizing Rail Travel
Proposed European Pipe Scheme Encompasses Croatia as Key Participant
Get ready to redefine your travel experiences across Europe, the UK, and Ireland, as the Tube for Europe project is on its way! This astounding initiative could transform the way we travel, offering unparalleled convenience and shorter travel times. Although details are still scarce, here's what we know so far.
Ambitious European Connections
The Tube for Europe project, publicly revealed by 21st Europe think-tank, aims to create a super-fast rail network that connects major European cities. The proposed trains, designed in collaboration with several notable studios, promise speeds of up to 400 km/h. The plan encompasses departures from British cities such as London, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Belfast, and it intends to link the United Kingdom, Ireland, and all European countries – from Portugal down to Turkey and all the way to Ukraine.
Cutting-Edge Travel Experience

These high-speed trains will not only boast impressive speeds but also provide a cutting-edge travel experience. Travellers from Helsinki could enjoy a three-hour journey to Berlin, for instance, compared to the current day-long journey. In the same vein, the traditional night-long journey between Kiev and Berlin would become a seamless connection.
Cultural Hubs Outside City Centers
First name:
In addition to record-breaking travel times, the new train stations will serve as cultural hubs, located outside the city centers. These stations will be active public spaces, featuring various cultural facilities, squares, and events, making them tourist destinations in their own right.
Design and Amenities
Last name:
The stations' visual identity will be characterized by the color blue, inspired by the European Union's logo, to emphasize the project's pan-European nature. The goal is for these blue trains to become as recognizable as London's red double-decker buses or New York's yellow taxis.
The trains will offer different zones adapted to passengers' needs, including quiet areas for work or focus, open spaces for socializing, family zones with child-friendly amenities, and cafe zones for enjoying refreshments during the journey.
Gender:
Freight Rail Network and Funding
Male Female
Aside from passenger transport, Starline, the company behind the Tube for Europe project, plans to develop a freight rail network for faster goods transportation across Europe, improving logistics.
With the project currently still in its concept phase, its financing will likely come from the EU's budget and national governments. Given the scale of this ambitious project, the investment is expected to be substantial, with precise estimates to be determined after further studies and planning.
Country:
Croatia in the Picture
According to recent media reports, the Tube for Europe's high-speed rail network will include Bosnia and Herzegovina, envisioning at least one station in each participating country. Croatia is planned to be part of Corridor B, connecting Lisbon to Kiev, with the Sarajevo station in Bosnia and Herzegovina serving as Croatia's Tube for Europe station. The plan also proposes a section of the corridor to pass under the Adriatic Sea, posing a significant construction challenge.
