New Construction Project Breaks Ground in Kaufbeuren
A significant development is underway in Kaufbeuren, as BUWOG Bauträger GmbH begins construction on a new residential project. The new construction will add 60 apartments to the Marktoberdorfer Straße, with completion expected by March 2026.
The new buildings, led by BUWOG and the Mindelheim-based company WMM Modulbau GmbH, will consist of four multi-family houses, each with up to five full floors. The apartments will range from compact 1-room to 2-room units, most of which will feature balconies or terraces. Notably, all apartments will be barrier-free, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
Manuela Gebhart, Vonovia Regional Manager for Bavaria, emphasised that the new buildings are a perfect complement to the surrounding area, blending harmoniously into the existing neighbourhood. The project is being carried out in the efficiency house standard, ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability.
Robert Stellmach, Vonovia Regional Area Manager, highlighted the additional amenities that will come with the new construction. This includes 60 above-ground parking spaces, 60 bicycle parking spaces, and 16 outdoor storage boxes. The apartments will also feature modern tiled bathrooms, parquet floors in living areas, and high-quality fitted kitchens with electrical appliances.
Elevators to all floors will also be installed, enhancing the convenience and accessibility of the apartments.
Mayor Stefan Bosse expressed his satisfaction with the project, stating that it improves the housing supply in Kaufbeuren. He noted that the project can be achieved quickly, with high-quality infill, and involves local companies from the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mayor Stefan Bosse, who expressed his excitement for the project. Udo Sauter, Managing Director of BUWOG, also expressed his satisfaction about creating new housing with an innovative construction method.
Looking ahead, a subsequent quarter development "Am Flugfeld" is planned for mid-2026. This development involves the modernization of existing buildings and potential development of attic areas for new apartments in the Marktoberdorfer Straße.
The new apartments are expected to be ready for renting by March 2026, providing much-needed housing in Kaufbeuren.
