In a recent interview with ntv.de, Reisner addressed the significant jump in Russian drone attacks on Ukraine, a trend that has intensified over the past month. As more Geran-2 drones move into production, the country's ability to manufacture these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has rapidly increased, from 300 pieces per month to as many as 500 daily.

The Geran 2, measuring over three meters in length and two meters in width, was once supplied by Iran but is now being produced in substantial quantities by Russia. These drones pose a threat thanks to improved engines that help them mirror the hum of a moped and jet engines that boost their speed while reducing range. Some modified versions are even designed as decoys to lure out Ukrainian air defenses. The explosive load of Geran drones has increased in recent months, doubling their destructive power.

Russia's rise in drone manufacturing capabilities can be attributed to factors such as government support, technological advancements, stronger supply chains, and skilled Human resources. The establishment of UAV production centers across the country, most notably in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, showcases the government's commitment to expanding drone production. In addition, the development of the Saint Petersburg Special Economic Zone intends to boost the industry's capacity, while partnerships with countries like China offer support in engine supplies and manufacturing capabilities.

The educational sector plays a crucial role in building a skilled workforce, as over 27,000 students attend universities focused on drone design and production. Furthermore, state orders for civilian drones indicate a sizable investment in UAV technology, despite administrative challenges.

Reisner anticipates that, if Russia continues to increase its production rate to 500 drones per day, Ukraine can expect to endure constant massive strategic air strikes in the foreseeable future. The criticism surrounding Ukraine's operational efforts and defense against drone attacks remains at the heart of the conflict. However, a saturation effect affecting all defense systems, such as Israel's experience, limits Ukraine's ability to combat the sheer volume of Russian drone attacks.
