Organizer Los Angeles County Business Federation honors software creator Ali Sahabi with Public-Private Impact Award

Ali Sahabi, a prominent figure in the real estate development industry, has made significant strides in promoting sustainability and resilience, particularly in the Southern California region.

Sahabi's work extends to various professional, civic, and nonprofit organizations. He is a member of the California Apartment Association, California Building Officials, California Manufacturers & Technology Association, Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles County Business Federation, and U.S. Resiliency Council.

One of Sahabi's notable achievements is the development of the Dos Lagos Mixed Use Development in Corona. This sustainable community, which earned several awards for sustainable communities, sustainable development, and environmental friendliness, was the first master-planned community in Western Riverside County. It featured several firsts, including the first pedestrian promenade lifestyle center, the first LEED certified Class A office building in Riverside County, and the first work/live lofts in the Inland Empire.

Sahabi's commitment to sustainability and resilience is further evident in his initiative, the Green Valley Initiative, which he launched in 2007. This regional movement towards sustainability is credited with sparking some of the region's most forward-thinking projects.

In 2024, Sahabi received the first Public-Private Impact Award from the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed) for his work in promoting sustainability and resilience. BizFed, an organization that unites over 240 business organizations representing 420,000 employers with 5 million employees throughout Southern California, presented this award.

Sahabi's efforts in this field also led to the creation of the Resilience Advantage, an educational series developed by the U.S. Resiliency Council. This initiative focuses on resilience in the built environment and consists of videos, webinars, and interactive panels to discuss resilience and bring together a large audience. The Resilience Advantage aims to help business owners make informed decisions about protecting their businesses, buildings, and employees from earthquakes.

The Resilience Advantage webinar series was conducted over five years by the U.S. Resiliency Council in collaboration with BizFed, LAEDC, LA Area Chamber of Commerce, and program sponsor Optimum Seismic, Inc., with the U.S. Small Business Administration as a co-sponsor. The series examined specific ways to make buildings safer and more resilient, and covered topics such as quick recovery from damage to minimize business interruption and the cost-benefit analysis of improved resilience.

The benefits of making buildings safer and more resilient are numerous. They include preventing death, injuries, property losses, preserving jobs and workforce housing, and protecting vital services and local economies.

In addition, Sahabi led a workforce development program in partnership with the County of San Bernardino and San Bernardino Community College District. This program provided job skill training in the home building industry to formerly incarcerated individuals.

Sahabi's educational background supports his work in this field. He earned a Master of Real Estate Development degree from the University of Southern California School of Urban Planning and Development and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Pepperdine University.

Through his various initiatives and partnerships, Ali Sahabi continues to make significant contributions to the field of sustainability and resilience, setting a model for other communities to follow.
