Nio Reinforces Sales Team by Recruiting 800 Employees in the Last Month, Anticipating the Upcoming Debut of the 3rd-Gen ES8
Nio's Third-Generation ES8 to Debut on August 21, 2025
Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced that its third-generation ES8 will make its debut later this month. The announcement was made by Nio's founder, chairman, and CEO, William Li, during a media briefing on August 1.
The debut event will take place in Chengdu on August 21, 2025, with a product and technology presentation starting at 7:30 pm Beijing time. Showroom models of the new ES8 will be available in Nio stores on the same day.
The third-generation ES8 is the largest pure electric SUV in the Chinese market and features significant updates. These include a horizontal central screen, similar to the ET9 sedan, replacing the previous model's vertical screen. The vehicle also boasts an intelligent chassis, flagship smart driving chips, and a 102-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 635 km.
The vehicle is targeted at a broad range of users, including business, family, and long-haul drivers, and is supported by Nio's battery swap network, as demonstrated by a recent long-distance drive toward Mount Everest.
While the August 21 debut offers a first look and showroom availability, full production deliveries and the official sale will begin following the Nio Day event on September 20, 2025, in Hangzhou.
In preparation for the upcoming launch, Nio has expanded its sales team in the past month. Over 800 professionals have joined the company, many of whom have experience at Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus, and Volvo.
The starting price for the third-generation ES8, including the battery pack, is RMB 498,000 ($69,380), with the exchange rate being RMB 7.1775 per US dollar.
Nio's head of user operations, Yang Bo, announced these developments on Weibo today. Yang also invited sales talent from all industries to join Nio and its sub-brand Onvo. Show cars for the third-generation ES8 will be available in Nio stores after the event.
The expansion of Nio's sales team is in preparation for the traditional peak sales season in the third and fourth quarters and the launch of the higher-end ES9 SUV next year. The first-generation ES8 was launched on December 16, 2017, and the second-generation ES8 was rolled out on December 24, 2022.
In addition to sales professionals, many professionals from the real estate, insurance, and financial sectors have also joined Nio and are currently undergoing intensive training. This expansion is partly in preparation for the upcoming launch of Nio's ES8 large electric SUV.
Nio's Nio Day event has been moved from its usual year-end slot to the fall, with the exact date yet to be announced. Consumers and enthusiasts can expect to see and experience the new ES8 starting late August 2025, with full market launch and sales commencing in September.
