New banknote of Tk100 to be unveiled by BB on August 12
The Bangladesh Bank has announced the release of a redesigned Tk100 banknote, marking the latest step in the central bank's ongoing currency modernisation programme. The new banknote, set to be issued on August 12, 2025, boasts a series of advanced security features designed to enhance durability and make counterfeiting significantly more difficult.
The redesigned Tk100 banknote measures 140 by 62 millimetres and features sharper printing, richer colours, and high-detail reproductions of national symbols, the central bank's logo, and security clauses. For visually impaired users, three raised dots will be on the edge of the new banknote to help identify it by touch.
One of the most noticeable changes is the see-through "100" that aligns perfectly when held against light. This feature, combined with a colour-changing ink that changes appearance from different angles, makes the banknote easily recognisable.
Microprinted text and ultra-fine fibres embedded in the paper also add to the banknote's security. These fibres glow under UV light, providing an additional layer of protection. A glossy protective coating has been added to make the note more durable.
The new Tk100 banknote will first be issued from Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel branch. After its initial issuance, the banknote will be distributed through other branches across the country. Notably, both the old and new Tk100 notes will remain legal tender.
When held against light, the security thread on the new banknote reveals the denomination. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the security thread displays "100 Taka" and "Bangladesh Bank" in fine print. The banknote also includes 10 distinct anti-counterfeit measures, with others implied as advanced and specialized security measures introduced in this new release.
Banks, businesses, and the public will be briefed on how to identify the updated features of the new Tk100 banknote. The improved Tk100 banknote design aims to strengthen public trust in cash transactions. The release of the new Tk100 banknote is part of a series of upgrades to the Tk1,000, Tk50, and Tk20 notes, reflecting the central bank's commitment to combating counterfeit currency.
