In a strategic move to enhance financial inclusion and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), NCBA has opened its 99th branch in Kawangware, a vibrant hub of entrepreneurial activity in Nairobi. The new branch, located in the heart of the community, is set to bring banking services closer to underserved populations and informal sector businesses, which previously had limited access to formal financial services.

The Kawangware branch has been designed with the local population in mind, offering a robust product suite that includes digital account onboarding, mobile loans, asset finance, and SME-focused tools like NCBA tills. These services aim to make banking more accessible and affordable for the community, with over 1,106 accounts and 402 merchant tills already established since its inception. The branch serves an average of 130 customers daily, demonstrating a strong uptake of banking and digital financial solutions.

Kawangware is known for its thriving SME and retail sectors, and NCBA's presence aims to empower local enterprises with tailored financial products. The bank offers SME loans, group lending, and cash management tools to help streamline financial operations for small businesses, reflecting its commitment to making financial services more impactful for SMEs, enabling them to expand and scale their operations. The branch's balance sheet has grown to KES 235.7 million, signaling robust economic activity since its inception.

The branch opening also marks a significant step in deepening NCBA's collaboration with the Nairobi County Government. This partnership aims to increase the availability of financial tools and capital to underserved populations, and has received public endorsement from local representatives, such as Dagoretti North MP Hon. Beatrice Elachi, who praised the initiative for fostering economic resilience and inclusivity in the area.

Hon. Elachi believes that this collaboration will build a more inclusive, resilient economy for the communities, stating, "The collaboration between Nairobi County and financial institutions like NCBA is a meaningful step in deepening engagement with local retail and SME customers, and unlocking opportunities for small and medium enterprises."

Dennis Njau, NCBA's Ag. Group Director, Retail Banking, made a statement during the branch opening, expressing the bank's commitment to supporting SMEs and growing with the communities they serve. He emphasised that the bank is dedicated to driving financial inclusion, supporting local enterprise, and empowering the dreams of the people in the community.

The Kawangware branch is part of NCBA's broader regional engagement strategy, which includes tailored financial products for SMEs across locations like Eldoret, and innovative digital platforms like Connect Plus and Nyumba Zetu, designed to ease financial management for clients. The bank also leverages mobile technology via the NCBA NOW App to enable 24/7 digital banking, further promoting financial inclusion beyond physical branches.
