Mourning wave sweeps through the ranks of Baden-Baden companions following the demise of Kurt Hochstuhl
Kurt Hochstuhl: A Beloved Figure in Baden-Baden's Community
Kurt Hochstuhl, a prominent figure in Baden-Baden's local politics and sports scene, passed away at the age of 71. The news of his death, announced by TV Sandweier 1907 on Tuesday, has spread throughout the city.
As a councilor for more than a decade and a member of the Sandweier local council for even longer, Hochstuhl had left a significant mark on various areas of Baden-Baden's city life. He served as the chairman of the SPD faction in Baden-Baden's city council from 2014 to 2022, often working to find common ground between different factions.
Mayor Dietmar Späth (independent) praised Hochstuhl's great commitment to the city and the village of Sandweier upon his farewell from the city council in 2023. SPD councilor Werner Henn, who worked with Hochstuhl for many years, remembers him as someone who always made very factual and well-founded assessments. His statements were often seasoned with linguistic finesse and subtle irony.
Before his political career in Baden-Baden, Hochstuhl was involved in historical and academic work, including contributions to local history projects such as the history of Ettlingenweier. No direct details about his professional occupation prior to politics are provided in the available search results.
Hochstuhl was also actively involved in sports, serving as a successful player, coach, referee, and official, and taking on responsibility as district chairman and president of the South Baden Handball Association. TV Sandweier 1907 plans to honor Hochstuhl before the start of the Regionalliga season this Friday. There will be a minute of silence for him during the South Baden derby against HSG Willstätt/Hanauerland.
In his personal life, Hochstuhl was married to Doris and had three sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Daniel Merkel, a close friend of Hochstuhl, remembers his diverse commitments in the name of TV Sandweier. The club, TV Sandweier 1907, also thinks of his family in this difficult time.
Hochstuhl had wanted to spend more time with his grandchildren when he retired from local politics in 2023. His health had not been good in the past weeks and months. However, his family can take comfort in the fact that Kurt Hochstuhl was greatly respected for his many achievements. Many people in Baden-Baden will remember him fondly.
